BLATTER SAYS SOUTH AFRICA WILL HOST WORLD CUP

FIFA president Sepp Blatter again dismissed fears that the next World Cup could be moved from South Africa and said the 2010 hosts were further along at this point than Germany was four years ago.

He denied FIFA is looking for an alternative host country because of concerns that South Africa had fallen far behind in its preparations. Blatter said that South Africa would get everything done.

He said that with almost four years to go, South Africa only has to build five new stadia and renovate one more. Four are already in place.

He also said transport infrastructure in the country should not pose problems and the technology and communications infrastructures were good.
