NEW YORK METS SIGN CITIGROUP SPONSORSHIP DEAL

Major League Baseball’s New York Mets agreed a record-breaking deal with financial services company Citigroup Inc. for the naming rights for the team’s new stadium.

The 20-year deal that is worth more than an average of $20 million a year includes options for both parties to extend the deal, potentially for up to 35 years. And other commercial rights are part of the deal.

The deal is a record for US stadium naming rights, ahead of the $10 million a year brought in by the NFL's Houston Texans from Reliant Energy to call their home Reliant Stadium.

The new stadium is being constructed and is scheduled to be ready for the 2009 season.
