Royal Liverpool to host 2022 Open Championship

Royal Liverpool will host the 151st Open Championship in 2022, the R&A has announced. The course in Hoylake previously hosted the 2014 and 2006 Opens.

“The Open shares a strong affinity with England’s Golf Coast and following the success of the Championship at Royal Birkdale two years ago we know that there will be tremendous excitement among golf fans at its return to Royal Liverpool,” said Martin Slumbers, chief executive of the Royal & Ancient (R&A), whom operates the Open Championship.

This year’s Open will travel to Northern Ireland and be contested at Royal Portrush with Royal St George’s hosting the 2020 Open and St Andrews, the ‘home of golf’ and the R&A, hosting in 2021.
