Australian pay-television operator Foxtel saw its number of paid subscribers increase by more than 500,000 during the 12-month period to the end of June as the growth of its streaming services more than accounted for the decline of its residential broadcast product, figures from News Corp’s latest annual report show.

News Corp, which owns a 65-per-cent stake in the operator, said the total number of paid subscriptions at the end of the period was 4.4 million. While the residential product remains Foxtel’s most popular, with 1.5 million subscribers, sports streaming service Kayo now has 1.3 million paying subscribers. The operator’s other streaming services – Binge, Flash and Foxtel Now – added another 1.4 million paid subscriptions.
