Fiorentina could be sold to New York Cosmos owner

Italian football club ACF Fiorentina could be under new ownership by the end of the week, with a board of directors meeting set for May 31.

Mediacom Owner Rocco Commisso, who also owns the New York Cosmos of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), is reportedly near a deal to acquire the club from the Della Valle family. Commisso made an offer to buy AC Milan last year after withdrawing a proposed $500m investment in US Soccer due to “conflicted board members.”

The Cosmos owner has been a critic of US Soccer and has been a driving force behind the NASL’s current antitrust litigation against the governing body in the United States.
