FIDE strips Russia of Chess Olympiad, terminates sponsorship deals with Russian firms

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has stripped Russia of the Chess Olympiad and terminated its sponsorship deals with Russian and Belarusian companies following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The federation, which is currently led by former Russian deputy prime minister and Fifa 2018 World Cup chairman Arkady Dvorkovich, has also banned the national anthems and flags of the countries at its events.
