Florian Riepe, the sports marketing executive who counts German football side Hamburg and the Lagardère Sports agency among his previous employers, has been named as head of sports at Production Resource Group, the production technology company particularly active in the film, music and television sectors.
Riepe (pictured) took up his position at PRG’s German headquarters in Hamburg earlier this month as it looks to build up its presence in the sports sector.
The company has offices across Germany and is a subsidiary of parent firm Production Resource Group LLC, which is based in New York.
In the new role, Riepe has assumed responsibilities for the sports unit’s sales and account management activities, along with business development.
Hamburg hired Riepe in April 2016 in the position of senior vice-president, marketing and international markets. He left the 2. Bundesliga side earlier this year.
Riepe held a variety of different agency roles before joining Hamburg. These included heading up Lagardère’s joint venture with USA Triathlon to organise the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final 2015 in Chicago. Before that, he was head of community and CSR Marketing at UFA Sports.
Riepe also spent 16 months as vice-president of brand strategy at Triumph Media Group, the short-lived agency set up by Thomas Martens. Before joining Triumph, Riepe held a variety of roles at the Lagardère-owned Sportfive, including a spell as the managing director of the agency’s operation in Bulgaria.
