The second and third Test matches against the West Indies in Colombo and Kandy are the most likely to be affected but the one-day international triangular tournament, featuring Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe, due to commence on December 8, will also need rescheduling.
The Sharjah tournament involving Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Pakistan, due to start on October 26, may also be postponed .
Pakistan, too, was considering Sharjah as a possible venue for its home matches after
New Zealand and Sri Lanka cancelled tours on security grounds. The Pakistan Cricket Board has submitted a list of ‘neutral’ venues, including Bangladesh and the UAE, to the International Cricket Council.
Meanwhile, hopes rose today that England’s tour of India will go ahead after England and Wales Cricket Board officials met with their Indian counterparts to agree that preparations for next month’s visit should proceed as planned.
