BBC seals four-year deal with British Swimming

Under the terms of the deal, the BBC will air a series of events in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, including the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Diving World Series, the LEN European Synchronised Swimming Champions Cup and the British Gas Swimming Championships.

The action will be carried on the BBC’s television, red button and sport website platforms and the broadcaster will also support a UK-wide participation campaign called The Big Splash, which will encourage participation in swimming through family fun pool sessions.

“We have a rich heritage of covering aquatic sports on the BBC and are delighted to be in a position to continue this commitment at what is a key time for the sport with the London 2012 Olympics on the horizon,” said Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport.

British Swimming CEO David Sparkes added: “Everyone at British Swimming is extremely excited about the launch of the Big Splash as we try and encourage more people to be more active through swimming.”
