I had the good fortune to be in Boston when the USOC (United States Olympic Committee) selected the city as its bid city for the 2024 Olympic Games. The majority of the people present, many with significant Olympic experience, were genuinely surprised; the common “wisdom” was that either Los Angeles or San Francisco were more likely selections.
