The contract – which now runs until after the 2013 race - was originally signed in 2003 and has been renewed twice following the latest announcement. In 2009 the New York race’s popularity has been demonstrated by attracting more than 100,000 applicants for the second straight year.
“It will be our privilege to celebrate a decade-long relationship in 2013. It says a lot about the strength of this relationship and the power of the marathon,” said race director Mary Wittenberg.
Amsterdam-based ING said on Monday that it will sell its US online banking unit, ING Direct, by the end of 2013 as part of its bid to get European Union approval for its restructuring plan.
