Under the new deal, Nike will have a store-within-store shop at the Yankees new stadium, it will run local marketing campaigns and grassroots initiatives, and supply sportswear to Yankees coaches and Yankees lower league teams. The new deal does not include MLB jersey rights, but will allow Nike to sell an increased amount of licensed apparel.
Nike is already a Major League Baseball licensee, and can use MLB logos in its advertisements. It also already has endorsement deals with many of the top Yankees players, including Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera.
The Yankees had originally tried to sell Nike just signage rights, but the sportswear company was interested in a larger commercial partnership with the team.
