JON TIBBS ASSOCIATES BUILDS ON OLYMPIC SUCCESS

Tokyo 2016 secured the services of Olympic communications consultancy Jon Tibbs Associates (JTA) that was instrumental in Sochi 2014 Bid success.

Jon Tibbs Associates (JTA), has landed a major assignment from Tokyo 2016 within one month of helping Sochi secure the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. JTA has been appointed as Strategic Communications Consultants by Tokyo 2016 – the same role played by JTA in helping Sochi secure Russia’s first ever Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games for 2014. Sochi represented JTA’s third successful Olympic Bid having previously led the international PR for the Beijing 2008 and Athens 2004 Bids.

Tokyo had been in discussion with JTA for some time and were able to secure JTA’s services ahead of rival bid cities with their compelling technical bid that, according to JTA’s CEO, Jon Tibbs, has: “all the necessary ingredients to be successful whilst adding great value to the Olympic Movement”.

Ichiro Kono, CEO of Tokyo 2016, commented: “We are delighted to have secured the services of JTA. They bring a wealth of expertise and experience from winning Olympic Bids. The 2016 race will be extremely tough and JTA will help us to develop and communicate our competitive advantages. We look forward to working very closely with Jon Tibbs and his colleagues over the next two years”.

JTA’s role will be to help develop Tokyo 2016’s core proposition and overall international communications strategy and then work with global marketing and communications firms to build the brand within the Olympic Movement. JTA will also have responsibility for producing Tokyo 2016’s face-to-face presentations to the Olympic Family over the next two years. JTA played a similar role for Sochi 2014, culminating in Sochi’s acclaimed final presentation, led by President Vladimir Putin, to IOC Members in Guatemala last month.

Jon Tibbs commented: “This is a very exciting and prestigious appointment for JTA. I have been to Tokyo several times over the last few months and have been extremely impressed with the technical potential of the Bid. This is underpinned by a real vision with clear, long term advantages to the Olympic Movement. We can’t wait to get started”.

The Tokyo assignment builds on JTA’s growing portfolio in the Olympic Movement including clients from International Federations, National Olympic Committees and TOP sponsors. With over 20 years Olympic expertise and knowledge, JTA is the only strategic communications consultancy dedicated 100 per cent to the Olympic Movement.

The host city for the 2016 Games will be selected by the International Olympic Committee at the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen in October 2009.
