VIEWERS FLOCK TO WATCH WORLD CUP FINAL

The World Cup final between Italy and France was a ratings winner in France, Italy and the USA. In Italy over 23 million watched public-service broadcaster Rai’s coverage of the final, some 84 per cent share of the audience, with an estimated two million more watching coverage on pay-broadcaster Sky Italia.

In France an estimated 22.1 million watched commercial broadcaster TF1’s coverage, with the audience peaking at 25 million during the penalty shootout that clinched the game.

In the US, estimates show that a total of 17 million watched the match. Around 12 million viewers watched network ABC’s coverage, three times more than watched the 2002 final between Brazil and Germany, while over 5 million viewers watched US Spanish-language broadcaster Univision's coverage, up from 2.9 million for the 2002 final.
