London Olympic Park new handball home

London GD Handball Club are set to move into the Copper Box Arena in the city's Olympic Park.

The venue, which hosted handball during the 2012 London Olympic Games, will be used by the club for both training and home matches. The £55 million multi-sport arena will also stage professional boxing events and basketball club the London Lions’ home fixtures.

London GD player-coach Jordi Ferrer-Torras told BBC Radio London: “It's huge and is fantastic news for us. As a club our immediate objective is to promote the sport so it's a really good opportunity. Before we were a bit more spread and facilities were a bit more limited, so this will give us an extra degree of structure.”

However, handball’s national funding was completely cut in December by government funding body UK Sport.
