Legal action could halt Orange Sport sale

Orange, a subsidiary of France Télécom, may suspend a planned sale of its sports television channel Orange Sport due to legal action launched by competing telecommunications providers.

The Paris Court of Commerce ruled in February that Orange must stop tying the subscription of Orange Sport to the sale of a triple-play – telephony, television and internet – offer before March 24. The legal action had been brought by telecommunications providers Free, SFR and Canal+ Group.

Orange has appealed the judgement, and is now considering three options – obeying the judgment, paying a €50,000 daily fee, or broadcasting Orange Sport via satellite.
