The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been postponed and the forthcoming Asia Cup appears increasingly likely to be moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to political and economic instability in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the postponement of the LPL following a request from commercial rights-holder Innovative Production Group (IPG). ESPNCricinfo reports that IPG struggled to secure sponsors for the third edition of the tournament, which was due to be held from July 31 to August 21, amid the country’s worsening economic state. LPL franchise owners also reportedly pressured SLC to postpone the tournament.
