The government in the Indian state of Goa plans to spend INR4.5bn (€58m/$63m) hosting the National Games of India next year.
After a meeting of state officials to review preparations for the event, the state’s chief minister Pramod Sawant said it would ask India’s central government to cover 50 per cent of the hosting cost.
The 36th edition Games will take place from October 20 to November 4, 2020, at several venues across the state. The event will involve competitions in 37 sporting disciplines.
Goa was originally due to host the games in November 2016. The state has repeatedly postponed it, drawing the ire of, and a fine from, the Indian Olympic Association.
