The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has offered to host a test series between India and Pakistan, raising the possibility of a first red-ball contest between the teams for more than 15 years, according to reports.

ECB deputy chair Martin Darlow, who is currently in Pakistan as part of England’s first tour of the country since 2006, reportedly made the offer during talks with Pakistan Cricket Board chair Ramiz Raja. The ECB’s pitch is said to be motivated by a belief in the importance of matches between India and Pakistan, home to the sport’s two largest fan bases and two of its most successful teams, for the survival of cricket's longest format.
