Bordeaux become latest Ligue 1 club to be taken over by US investors

General American Capital Partners, the American investment fund, has completed a $114m (€100m) takeover of Ligue 1 club Bordeaux.

The sale was finalised on Tuesday following several months of discussions with previous owner M6 – a TV channel – which bought the club in 1999.

The move represents something of a coup for Ligue 1 chief executive Didier Quillot, who has been hunting for US investors for French clubs this year to improve the standard of the league.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt bought Marseille in 2016.
