World Cup powers Fifa’s finances as ECA hails new accord

The commercial power of the Fifa World Cup has resulted in record revenues of $2.096bn (€1.9bn) for 2014 and $5.718bn for the four-year period spanning 2011-14, as world football’s governing body today (Friday) revealed details of a significantly increased financial package with the European Club Association (ECA).
