Premiere “sure” of rights success

German pay-television channel, Premiere, is certain that it will win the rights to show Bundesliga matches, the top-tier domestic football league in Germany, according to Reuters.

Premiere CEO, Michael Boernicke told Reuters, in remarks embargoed for release today, that “I am sure we will win the rights," - adding that Premiere will bid for the rights at every possible opportunity.

He also said that Premiere is strongly positioned with the support of large shareholder News Corp, which owns around 25 per cent of the company.

German weekly, Focus, reported earlier this week that News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch was sounding out the possibility of buying the entire Bundesliga TV rights package for €450 million. The article did not quote sources and a News Corp spokesman declined to comment.
