John Kobelke, the state’s minister for sport, wants the government to contribute one-third of the stadium's total cost, estimated at $1 billion.
“I am very hopeful that we will actually get quite substantial support from an incoming federal government to make sure Perth can have a very modern stadium which meets our needs and we'll be able to build that sooner rather than later and it will be a stadium that will last well into the future," he said.
Kobelke said a decision on the stadium site will be made soon and that federal funding is essential, to have the stadium ready by 2013.
