EVALUATION TEAM VISITS MOSCOW AND BARCELONA

The International Association of Athletics Federations Evaluation Team completed the first part of its on-site tour of candidates for the 2011 and 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

It has visited Moscow and Barcelona and the remaining two cities in the race to host these editions of the IAAF’s key event, Daegu (KOR) and Brisbane (AUS), will be visited next month.

The Evaluation Team was led by IAAF Vice-President Helmut Digel (GER) and consisted of Council Members Cesar Moreno Bravo (MEX) and Nawal El Moutawakel (MAR), who was the Chairwoman of the IOC Evaluation Commission for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, as well as IAAF General Secretary Pierre Weiss, Communications Director Nick Davies, Project Manager Rosie Pili, and representing IAAF Marketing Partner Dentsu and their agents AMS, Junko Shiota and Nigel Swinscoe.

The evaluation tour has a standard format, taking place over 2 days which must include:

• Visits to the Main Stadium and Training/warm up venues
• Visits to hotels which will be used for Athletes Accommodation and IAAF
• Visit to IAAF Congress Venue
• Meeting with the Bidding Committee to discuss the Bidding Documents and procedures
• Press Conference

The evaluation group will examine each city’s bid in detail, and made suggestions with the aim of helping the bidders make the best possible impact with their final presentations to the IAAF Council Members on 27 March in Mombasa, Kenya, where the winning candidates will be selected.
