Preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi have been criticised for delays and a lack of co-ordination by a panel of Indian lawmakers.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) reports that Sitaram Yechury, a federal lawmaker and chairman of a parliamentary panel on transport, tourism and culture, said, “The 2010 Games are drawing near and so many projects are yet to be initiated, let alone being completed.

“There are a large number of civic and other agencies, but there is an absence of a co-ordinated mechanism.”

Yechury criticised the Delhi government for only submitting proposals for the development of infrastructure, including the creation and renovation of hospitality facilities and modernisation of tourism sites to the Tourism Ministry in November 2008.

Yechury made the comments after submitting a report on “development of tourism infrastructure and amenities for the commonwealth Games 2010”.
