Representatives of the eight nations due to take part in the tournament, including England, were briefed on the security situation in Dubai by the ICC’s own security consultants and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), according to Reuters.
Although the PCB highlighted the successful staging of the Asia Cup, concerns remain over the ability to guarantee the safety of the teams involved.
PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi, however, dismissed concerns, saying: “We have assured fool-proof security measures for the Champions Trophy. There is no reason for us to believe that the tournament will be relocated from Pakistan. Everything that needs to be done has been done to ensure that the Champions Trophy is held here smoothly and safely. We've informed the ICC, the security experts and the competing nations about it and now hope that all the stakeholders will consider it objectively".
Several Australia and New Zealand cricketers previously said that they would not play in the tournament, although security experts who visited the venues declared them safe.
