SNRT to follow Morocco at 2018 World Cup

Moroccan public-service broadcaster SNRT has acquired rights to the 2018 Fifa World Cup, according to multiple reports, with Morocco set to make its first appearance at the national team football tournament in 20 years.

The PMEPMI.info website, citing a reliable Moroccan source, said SNRT has agreed a sublicensing deal with BeIN Media Group for free-to-air rights to Morocco’s games at this year’s World Cup in Russia.

In January 2011, Al Jazeera Sport acquired the rights to all major Fifa events, excluding the Club World Cup, between 2015 and 2022 in 23 territories across the Middle East and North Africa region. It was Fifa’s incumbent rights-holder in the region, having bought out the previous rights-holder ART in November 2009, and subsequently transformed into beIN Media Group.

Morocco has been drawn alongside Portugal, Spain and Iran in Group B at this year’s event.
