MTG lands World Boxing Super Series rights

Multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group has acquired rights in the Baltic and Nordic regions to the inaugural edition of the World Boxing Super Series annual elimination tournament.

MTG will broadcast the 2017-18 season in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia across its Viaplay and Viasat services.

The agreement grants MTG live rights in the three countries to all 14 events.

Fans in Latvia will be able to watch home favourite Mairis Briedis (pictured) battle against Cuba’s Mike Perez during the pair’s quarter-final bout in Riga on September 30.

In the Nordic region, MTG will show fights via its television channels and through Viaplay.

Nordic interest in the competition will come in the shape of Sweden’s Erik Skoglund, who will face off against England’s Callum Smith on September 16 in Liverpool.

The series will feature a total of 16 boxers across the cruiserweight and super middleweight classes and will run until May 2018 under a bracket-style elimination format.
