University of South Alabama swaps Nike for Adidas

The athletics department of the University of South Alabama has agreed an apparel partnership with German sportswear company Adidas.

The seven-year deal begins on June 1, 2018 and runs until May 31, 2025. Adidas will be the official athletic apparel and accessories brand for South Alabama’s Jaguars sports teams.

The deal covers footwear, apparel, uniforms, accessories and equipment for each of the university’s 17 sports programmes.

South Alabama will also participate in the Adidas Team Program, which features direct team sales. In addition, the Jaguars will be given an annual allowance for complimentary gear, as well as potential incentives based on competitive performance. Incentives will be provided in cash and complimentary allotment.

Dr. Joel Erdmann, director of athletics for the Jaguars, said: “The aspects of the agreement will obviously have a positive impact on our financial bottom line, but equally important is our access to the direct team sales program and Adidas' sincere desire to have South Alabama Athletics representing the Adidas brand.”

Adidas will replace US sportswear company Nike as the Jaguars’ apparel partner. Adidas is the official uniform, footwear and apparel provider for more than 100 collegiate programs including Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina State and Texas A&M.
