Total replaces Shell as World Endurance Championship, Le Mans partner

French oil and gas company Total has agreed a five-season deal to become the new official fuel supplier for the World Endurance Championship, along with other motor racing series organised by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

The deal, which will run from 2018 to 2022, also incorporates the showpiece 24 Hours of Le Mans, the European Le Mans Series and the Asian Le Mans Series.

Total already provides fuel to the latter series, but rival Shell is the current partner of the WEC, ELMS and Le Mans.

ACO said in a statement: “Through its expertise, the Total Group will without doubt bring strong added value to the championships as well as making a major contribution to this rapidly expanding area of motorsport.”

More details on the partnership, which is set to include significant branding rights, will be revealed at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, which takes place on June 17-18.
