Mercedes-Benz adds WGC-HSBC Champions to golf portfolio

German automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has agreed a deal to become the official car of the WGC-HSBC Champions golf tournament.

The four-year deal was announced on Saturday during the 2017 edition of the event, which concluded yesterday (Sunday) at the Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, China.

As part of the agreement, Mercedes-Benz provided a fleet of more than 70 luxury cars for players and officials during the tournament, which is unofficially recognised as Asia’s major. The company also built a new Mercedes me Café overlooking the driving range at Sheshan Golf Club, while an interactive car display was organised for this year’s event.

Mercedes-Benz has a strong presence within golf and sponsors three of the sport’s four major events – The Masters, The Open and the US PGA Championship.

The WGC-HSBC Champions is one of four World Golf Championship events and is co-sanctioned by the PGA, European and Asian Tours. England’s Justin Rose (pictured) yesterday shot a final-round score of 67 to win this year’s tournament.
