Danish ice hockey team to promote bitcoin through arena sponsorship

Danish ice hockey team Rungsted Seier Capital has renamed its home venue the Bitcoin Arena through a partnership with crypto financial company Bitcoin Suisse.

The partnership is effective from December 27 and runs until the summer of 2021.

Bitcoin Suisse is owned by Danish billionaire Niklas Nikolajsen and the partnership is designed to promote the digital currency of bitcoin.

Danish investment bank Saxo Bank previously held naming rights to the arena.

The Bitsonline website reported that Rungsted would begin paying its star player, Nikolaj Rosenthal, in bitcoin. The move would mark a first in professional sport. Nikolajsen is said to have plans to eventually pay the full team in bitcoin.

As part of the agreement, fans will be given the chance to win bitcoin, while digital payments will also be accepted at the newly-named Bitcoin Arena.

The pucks used during Rungsted’s games will also feature bitcoin designs.
