Twitter seeking up to $8m for NFL advertising packages – report

Social media company Twitter is seeking up to $8m (€7.2m) for advertising packages as part of its live streaming of games from the upcoming season of American football league the NFL, according to the Digiday.com website.

The report claimed that Twitter has pitched 10-game advertising packages to prospective partners, with the contracts ranging from $2m to $8m. Twitter is planning on broadcasting adverts during its live streams of NFL games and as part of its highlights clip packages.

Digiday also reported that half of the money Twitter is seeking would be put towards Amplify, the programme Twitter uses to incorporate adverts into its video clips. A source told Digiday that Twitter would offer category exclusivity as part of the highest-level $8m package.

The NFL in April selected Twitter as its exclusive partner to deliver a live over-the-top digital stream of Thursday Night Football games to a global audience across all devices during the course of the 2016 regular season.

Twitter will stream the 10 Thursday Night Football games broadcast by the NBC and CBS networks, which will also be simulcast on cable television broadcaster NFL Network, securing the league’s targeted ‘tri-cast’ distribution model of broadcast, cable and digital platforms.

In addition to live streaming video of NFL action, the partnership includes in-game highlights from TNF as well as pre-game broadcasts from players and teams via Twitter’s Periscope service.
