SFR-Numericable completes deal for Altice’s French media assets

French telecommunications company SFR-Numericable has completed the acquisition of Altice Media Group France, which operates a series of television channels and other media assets.

SFR-Numericable, which is owned by Altice, announced in April that it planned to launch five media services, including SFR Sport, following the transfer of assets.

SFR Sport will consist of five channels, while another media service, SFR News, will feature the BFM TV Sport channel, which will launch ahead of the start of the Uefa Euro 2016 national team football tournament in France next month.

Altice owner Patrick Drahi confirmed last month that his French media assets would be transferred to SFR-Numericable.

According to French newspaper Le Monde, SFR Sport’s new channel, Sport 1, will be dedicated to football, with Altice in November having secured rights to the English Premier League covering three seasons, from 2016-17 to 2018-19.

Sport 2 will broadcast other sports, Sport 3 will be dedicated to extreme sports, Sport 4K will be a high-definition service and Sport 5 will offer combat sports. BFM TV Sport will be a sports news channel. The channels will exploit the rights currently shown by Altice’s basic-tier sports broadcaster, Ma Chaîne Sport.
