Chevrolet gears up Brazil national team sponsorship

US car maker Chevrolet has signed up as a sponsor of the Brazil national football team.

The deal will run for five years, from 2014-15 to 2018-19, and will cover the team’s participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia. The agreement will be activated on September 5, when Brazil plays Colombia in a friendly match in the US.

Chevrolet will use the sponsorship deal to push the company’s ‘Find new ways’ promotional campaign. Under the deal, Chevrolet’s branding will be carried on the official team coach, training shorts and billboards.

José Maria Marin, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), said that companies have been getting in touch with the national governing body to explore possible commercial partnerships, and there have been more offers to stage friendly games against the Brazil national team despite the disappointing performance by the team at the 2014 World Cup.

Chevrolet’s world record seven-year shirt sponsorship deal, from 2014-15 to 2020-21, with English Premier League club Manchester United, has started this summer. The agreement is worth a total of about £357m (€415m/$559m).
