Turkey has revealed that it would like to host golf’s Ryder Cup, following the country’s successful hosting of the inaugural European Tour last week.

Turkish Golf Federation president Ahmet Agaoglu reportedly wants to boost the country’s golf hosting, with the next available Ryder Cup bidding process open for the 2022 edition. Agaoglu has already planned for Turkey to challenge Dubai to become title sponsors of the European Tour.

“We have the idea to host the Ryder Cup in 2022, but if anyone wants to skip it in 2018 [France] or 2014 [Scotland] we can take it. We will bid for that. Turkey is in Europe. But if we need to, we can build a course on the European side of Istanbul.

“We are candidates for the [the European Tour’s] ‘Race to Antalya’ or ‘Turkey’ in 2016. And what comes after that? The Ryder Cup,” Agaoglu said according to The Independent.
