WTCR signs Chinese rights deal

Chinese streaming service QIE Live has acquired rights to the newly-formed World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) motor-racing series.

The length of the deal was not disclosed, but it is set to cover the 2018 WTCR season, which will feature two races in China.

QIE Live, which is owned by Chinese internet company Tencent, will stream all remaining WTCR events this season, starting with this weekend’s Race of Hungary. Coverage will include bespoke content designed to appeal to new fans of the series through a dedicated web page.

QIE Live agreed the deal with Qishi, the series' rights-holder in China.

The WTCR launched in December following a licensing agreement between the World Touring Car Championship and the TCR series. Its inaugural season got underway earlier this month.
