WTCR secures Belgian rights partner

French-language public-service broadcaster RTBF has acquired highlights rights in Belgium to the newly-formed World Touring Car Cup (WTCR).

The deal, which RTBF signed with series promoter Eurosport Events, will cover the 2018 season.

RTBF will air a news programme on the Auto Mobile show on Monday nights, with highlights to be featured in the Auto Sport programme, which is broadcast after the channel’s live coverage of the Formula One motor-racing series. RTBF will also air a WTCR season review show.

RTBF will follow the progress of Belgian driver Denis Dupont, who will be racing for Comtoyou Racing. The series has Belgian team representation in the shape of Comtoyou, Boutsen Ginion Racing, DG Sport Compétition and Team WRT.

The WTCR was launched in December following a licensing agreement between the World Touring Car Championship and TCR series. Its inaugural season gets underway in Marrakech, Morocco on April 7-8.
