Women’s World Handball Championship secures new media platform in host nation

The DOSB New Media division of the German Olympic Sports Confederation will launch its first sports-specific media platform after acquiring rights to the 2017 women’s World Handball Championship.

DOSB New Media has acquired rights to the national-team tournament, which takes place in Germany from December 1-17, from the Lagardère Sports agency.

Its contract includes live and on-demand rights to all 84 games, and the coverage will underpin the launch of Handball-Deutschland.TV.

DOSB New Media said the new platform will be open to clubs and leagues from all levels who want to stream their games.

German sports broadcaster Sport1 acquired rights to the World Handball Championship earlier this month.

Sport1 secured platform-neutral distribution rights for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Sport1 acquired the rights from Lagardère Sports.
