WNBL returns to TV with Fox Sports deal

Australian pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports has acquired rights to the domestic Women’s National Basketball League.

The agreement grants the WNBL television exposure for the first time since 2015, when public-service broadcaster ABC ended its long-running coverage.

Fox will show 23 games live during the 2017-18 season, which will begin on October 5 and run for three months. The three-year deal will run until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Fox’s coverage will include the WNBL semi-finals and grand final, which will now be played over a best-of-three series.

Each of the eight WNBL teams will have a televised game within the first eight rounds.
