Vikersund in Norway appears set to land hosting rights for the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) Ski Flying World Championship in 2022 after emerging as the sole bidder for the event.
The FIS said Vikersund’s application brings the total number of candidates for its 2022-23 World Championships to five, with two bids having been submitted for alpine events and two for the Nordic disciplines.
Trondheim in Norway and Planica in Slovenia have submitted bids to stage the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2023. Courchevel-Meribel, France and the Austrian resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm are bidding to stage the 2023 Alpine World Championships.
The Ski Flying World Championships traditionally rotate between five venues due to the restricted number of ski flying facilities worldwide.
