USF Athletics assigns multimedia rights to firm controlled by Lightning owner

The athletics division of the University of South Florida in the United States has entered into a multimedia rights partnership with Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties.

The 10-year agreement will come into effect from July 1, 2017, and is worth a guaranteed $29m (€27m) over the course of the contract.

TBEP will hold exclusive rights to all commercial multimedia sports marketing, sponsorship and respective inventory owned by USF Athletics.

The agreement covers content related to television, audio, social media, print and game entitlements.

TBEP is an entity controlled by Jeff Vinik, the owner of NHL ice hockey team the Tampa Bay Lightning. It launched earlier this year to provide services to clients relating to their own sports and entertainment properties.

USF director of athletics Mark Harlan said: “We are fortunate USF resides in a growing and thriving Bay Area with outstanding professional franchises. This is a very unique opportunity to partner with an organisation that has been recognised nationwide as one the best in sports and to utilise their leadership, creativity, and relationships to continue to elevate USF Athletics.”
