US sports officials weigh up impact of Trump order

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, whose city is bidding to host the 2024 summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, has hit out at President Donald Trump’s decision to ban immigration from seven predominantly Muslim nations as US sports officials weigh up the impact of the ruling.

The ban on visitors from the seven nations – Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen – comes with Los Angeles entering the final stages of a bid race that also includes Budapest and Paris. Trump’s outspoken nature and controversial policies had already raised concern amongst US sports executives before his election in November.
