TVE aces WTA rights deal

Spanish public-service broadcaster TVE has agreed a one-season deal with the Women’s Tennis Association for rights to its Premier-level tournaments.

The agreement covers the WTA’s 2017 season, with TVE broadcasting events via its Teledeporte sports channel and RTVE.es.

Teledeporte has covered the 2017 International Sydney tournament, which concluded today (Friday) as British No.1 Johanna Konta defeated Agnieszka Radwanska in the final to seal her second career WTA title.

The next tournament TVE will cover is the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, which takes place in the Russian city from January 30 to February 5.

Spain has two players inside the WTA singles top 20 in the shape of Garbiñe Muguruza (pictured) and Carla Suárez Navarro.
