TSN acquires Gold Cup, Champions League rights

Canadian pay-television sports broadcaster TSN has signed a multi-year rights deal with the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf).

The deal grants TSN exclusive rights to Concacaf’s Gold Cup national team tournament and the Champions League club competition.

This year’s Gold Cup takes place in the United States, and TSN’s coverage will begin with the opening match of the tournament between Canada and French Guiana on July 7. TSN’s live coverage of the event will culminate with the final on July 26.

TSN will hold Champions League rights from the 2018 season onwards. The broadcaster will follow Canadian teams’ progress during the tournament and will show live coverage of the final.

Live streaming and on-demand viewing of both competitions will also be available to TSN subscribers through the TSN Go mobile application and via TSN.ca.

The agreement was brokered by Soccer United Marketing, Major League Soccer’s commercial arm and Concacaf’s commercial partner for more than a decade.
