Tennis Channel expands French Open rights deal

US pay-television broadcaster Tennis Channel has expanded a rights deal for the French Open grand slam tournament.

Tennis Channel has secured exclusive cable, satellite-television and telecommunications rights for the competition for eight years, from 2016 to 2023.

Tennis Channel has added match blocks that it had previously sublicensed to US pay-television broadcaster ESPN for the first nine years of its rights agreement with the tournament.

Tennis Channel’s coverage of the event will increase from 50 hours to 110 hours from the 2016 edition.

Earlier this month, Tennis Channel was acquired by media company Sinclair Broadcast Group.
