Telemundo pens World Cup content deal with Google, YouTube

Telemundo, the holder of Spanish-language rights to the Fifa World Cup in the US, has agreed deals with internet company Google and its video-sharing website YouTube to share its coverage of the national team football tournament.

The broadcaster will make various video content available across Google and YouTube in the US.

Fans searching for Spanish-language news of the World Cup on Google will have access to various video highlights such as in-game clips, half-time highlights and key match moments.

Telemundo will also upload more than 1,000 hours of exclusive content across digital platforms, including its official channel on YouTube.

Content will include Spanish-language videos from YouTube users, as well as fan reactions from around the world.

In addition, games broadcast on television by Telemundo will be made available in markets where the YouTube TV service is available.

Telemundo is due to show coverage of all 64 games at the World Cup, which kicks off on June 14, and holds rights through to the 2026 tournament.

Peter Blacker, executive vice-president of digital and emerging business at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, said: “Partnering with Google to empower fans to easily search and find the best World Cup content and highlights in Spanish available is a true game changer for Telemundo.”
