Teleclub lands rights to Eurosport’s Bundesliga package

Swiss pay-television broadcaster Teleclub has extended and expanded its long-term partnership with media company Discovery Networks Deutschland by securing exclusive rights in Switzerland and Liechtenstein to sports broadcaster Eurosport’s package of rights for the Bundesliga, the top division of German football.

In December, the German Football League (DFL) agreed rights deals in Austria and Switzerland, along with three other German-speaking markets, with Eurosport, pay-television broadcaster Sky and DAZN, the OTT sports subscription service operated by digital media specialist Perform.

The four-season deals run from 2017-18 to 2020-21 and cover the top two divisions of German football, the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga. Along with Austria and Switzerland, the agreement also takes in Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and the autonomous province of South Tyrol in Italy.

Eurosport will broadcast 40 live Bundesliga matches per season, including the regular Friday night prime time, selected Sunday afternoon and top Monday night matches, as well as the German Supercup, the four relegation playoff matches and highlights from all games. The content will be broadcast via Eurosport on Teleclub Sport in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The Bundesliga deal is part of a “long-term” carriage extension for Discovery’s channels on the Teleclub platform.
