Star Sports secures Premier Badminton League rights

Asian pay-television broadcaster Star Sports has acquired rights for the 2016 season of India’s Premier Badminton League team competition.

Star Sports will broadcast live coverage of all 18 matches in the 2016 season, including the two semi-finals and final. All matches will be broadcast in a primetime slot.

Formerly known as the Indian Badminton League, the competition will this year run from January 2-17 at various venues across India.

The Premier Badminton League will feature six franchises, comprising players that will be auctioned off today (Monday). Indian stars Saina Nehwal (pictured) and Kidambi Srikanth will be amongst the players to feature.

Each franchise will host a two-day leg, with the top four teams after 15 matches progressing to the semi-finals. The respective winning team from each semi-final will go forward to the grand finale in New Delhi on January 17.

Star Sports acquired the rights from the Badminton Association of India national governing body.
