Sony bolsters its football portfolio with Nations League

Sony Pictures Networks India has continued its recent burst of European football acquisitions in the Indian subcontinent, picking up rights to the Uefa Nations League in 2018-19 and 2020-21.

Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer distribution and head of sports said: “Our objective is to bring the best footballing action from around the world making the sports channels of SPN the premier destination for all sports fans.”

In August, Sony acquired rights to the Euro 2020 tournament. Sony also held rights to Euro 2016, along with Uefa European Qualifiers in a four-season deal, from 2014-15 to 2017-18.

Sony has also sublicensed rights to Spain’s LaLiga from Facebook, covering the 2018-19 season only. It has acquired rights to the English FA Cup and Italian Serie A in separate three-season deals with the IMG agency, both from 2018-19 to 2020-21.

Last week, Sony renewed rights to the Uefa Champions League and Europa League across the Indian subcontinent.
